Immunology Meets Philosophy vol. 3

This event brings together multiple perspectives on crucial questions surrounding how microbiome research defines, investigates, and interprets microbial influences on (human) biology. It will explore clinical and mechanistic insights into how microbial communities shape human development and disease, how shifts in microbial composition intersect with antibiotic resistance and long‑term treatment outcomes, and how researchers can establish causal relations. Discussions will also address the elusive notion of a “healthy microbiome,” examining how such claims are constructed, measured, and challenged, and how explanatory practices in microbiome science succeed or fall short when linking microbial change to physiological effects.
